CEECLAM (Central-Eastern European Committee for Life Disability and Health Assurance Medicine) has been founded during the first joint Polish-Hungarian Congress in Hungary in June 2001.

The growing importance of life insurance in Central and Eastern Europe rise up demands on specialists employed in insurance industry. The idea to establish a formal organisation arose from the need to enhance contacts among physicians active in life and health insurance within these countries.

The idea was supported by the ICLAM (International Committee for Life Disability and Health Assurance Medicine) representatives present at the founders meeting.

The major aim of the Committee shall be the collaboration and exchange of experience and professional knowledge among insurance medicine physicians from Central and Eastern European countries.

The CEECLAM co-operation shall be based on issues of common interest such as:
- Setting professional contacts between countries within this region
- Sharing experience in the field of medical science and practice with reference to insurance
- Rising the level of medical knowledge in life offices
- Developing co-operation with other formal and informal groups of specialists from Central-Eastern European Countries to join in setting up a formal Association.

The goals of formation of CEECLAM are as follows:
- To realise that insurance medicine representatives have common interest although their companies are competitors on the market
- Rise the need to higher the level of professional knowledge and specialised education in insurance medicine
- To allow free exchange of knowledge and expertise among members of the neighbouring countries

The interest in the association is growing.

So far CEECLAM has gathered representatives from eight countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania).

The 1st Conference of CEECLAM organised and hosted by Polish Association of Insurance Medicine in Warsaw in November 2002 appeared to be the important step towards further more formal co-operation among European countries in the field of insurance medicine and influenced successful integration of life insurance medical specialists from neighbouring countries.

The second scientific conference is planned to take place in Croatia in Autumn 2005.
