Conference "Documentation and medical information - essencial medical, legal and financial problem"

Organized by: PAIM
Place: Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel, pl. Zawiszy 1, Warsaw
Date: 22nd of October 2013

Dear All!

It is my honour to welcome You to the next scientific conference organised by the Polish Association of Insurance Medicine. The idea of opinion exchange and interdisciplinary cooperation, started during the previous conference, will be continued during this meeting.

The dynamism of change in the medical services market make the issues of diagnostics and therapy equally important to the other aspects of operating in the medical profession. An integral part of diagnostic and therapeutic process is documentation creation. Documentation and medical information are utilised by different subjects – from medical services contracting and settling within the public health insurance, through temporary or permanent incapability certification in social insurance, to the judicial proceedings concerning reimbursements and disability insurance pensions and professional liability cases. An equally important receiver of medical documentation and information is the sector of commercial insurers which utilises data in risk assessment and damage liquidation processes. Documentation concerning one particular case can be used by many subjects independently and this phenomenon is more and more common. In order to get legitimate quality opinions and decisions it is essential that the documents are created and maintained in an objective and proper manner. Any erraneous, non-objective and unreliable documentation result in high risk of unjustified, undue costs being the result of decision making based on incorrect medical data. According to the opinion of the Polish Association of Insurance Medicine this phenomenon is becoming more and more troubling. Therefore, it is justified to identify and describe these problems and develop control and preventive mechanisms.

Any activities should be preceded by a constructive discussion in the largest group of persons and institutions possible. The aim is to raise awareness in the insurance community as far as threats are concerned and define the needs of the market in the area of creating and providing access to medical documentation and information.

I believe that our conference is going to start the debate concerning quality, completeness, trustworthiness and availability of information included in the medical documentation.

Best regards and wishes of fruitful deliberations and interesting discussion!

President of the Organising Committee
Dr Piotr Daniluk
